India's travel industry is preparing for weaker overseas travel demand after inflation, higher airfares and fuel-related concerns affected summer enquiries.

Outbound holidays are popular during the April-June school break, especially among affluent families. But higher costs and public appeals to reduce unnecessary foreign travel may shift some demand toward domestic destinations.

"India's story in 2026 is no longer about catching up — it's about defining what comes next."

Travel companies will need to adapt quickly, with more India-focused packages and value-based offers for price-sensitive travellers.

Major OTA platforms have started pushing flash deals on Indian destinations to capture demand that would otherwise have flowed to Southeast Asia or the Gulf.
