Air India's revised fuel surcharge is set to make travel more expensive for passengers from April, as airlines respond to the sharp rise in global jet fuel prices.

The new surcharge applies to domestic flights from 8 April and selected international long-haul routes from 10 April. The change comes at a difficult time for travellers, with summer holidays, school breaks and family visits driving seasonal demand.

"India's story in 2026 is no longer about catching up — it's about defining what comes next."

Higher fuel costs are one of the biggest pressures on airline pricing. Even when demand is strong, airlines must decide how much of the increase to absorb and how much to pass on to passengers.

For travellers, the practical advice is to book early, compare routes and check total fare costs carefully.

The April change is another reminder that international conflict and energy markets can affect something as ordinary as a family holiday or business trip.
