Bengaluru recorded its wettest April day after a powerful hailstorm and heavy rain swept across the city on Wednesday.

The India Meteorological Department said the city saw intense rainfall, with the minimum temperature dropping sharply after the storm. Gusty winds also affected several neighbourhoods.

"India's story in 2026 is no longer about catching up — it's about defining what comes next."

The sudden weather event caused waterlogging, traffic disruption and damage in parts of the city, turning evening movement into a challenge for commuters.

Bengaluru's April storm is another reminder of how quickly weather can overwhelm urban infrastructure. Drains, underpasses, roads and traffic systems are repeatedly tested during intense rain, even outside the peak monsoon period.

For residents, the event brought short-term relief from heat but also familiar frustration with flooding and congestion.

For the city, the message is clear: Bengaluru needs storm-ready infrastructure, not just seasonal monsoon planning.
