India's travel industry is preparing for a possible slowdown in overseas bookings during the peak summer season.

The pressure comes from higher airfares, inflation and public appeals to limit unnecessary foreign travel. Summer is usually a strong period for outbound tourism as families travel during school holidays.

"India's story in 2026 is no longer about catching up — it's about defining what comes next."

If some demand shifts to domestic destinations, Indian hotels, airlines and local operators may see an opportunity. But domestic packages often have lower margins, so the industry will need to adjust quickly.

Travel agents are reporting more enquiries for shorter international trips to nearby destinations rather than long-haul Europe or US packages.
