Indian startups are being warned not to build only around the latest AI hype.

AI is creating major opportunities across software, commerce, education, healthcare, finance and customer service. But founders are being encouraged to focus on long-term problems rather than chasing whatever is fashionable this month.

"India's story in 2026 is no longer about catching up — it's about defining what comes next."

The strongest AI companies will likely be those with real workflows, clear customer value and measurable outcomes. In 2026, 'AI-first' is no longer enough. The product still needs to solve something important.

Several Indian SaaS founders have publicly called on early-stage teams to focus on retention and gross margins, not just monthly active users.

Rohan Kapoor reports for The Indian Daily Post on ai and policy.
