India's Health Ministry has warned of intense heatwave conditions between April and June, urging states to prepare health systems for heat-related illness.

Hospitals and local authorities have been asked to strengthen readiness through heatstroke units, ORS supplies, public advisories and emergency response measures.

"India's story in 2026 is no longer about catching up — it's about defining what comes next."

The warning matters because heat stress can escalate quickly. Symptoms such as dizziness, confusion, nausea, fainting and rapid heartbeat should not be ignored, especially among outdoor workers, children, elderly people and people with chronic health conditions.

The ministry's advisory reflects a growing recognition that heat is not just uncomfortable. It can be deadly if public systems and individuals are not prepared.

For households, basic precautions remain important: drink water regularly, avoid outdoor activity during peak afternoon heat, wear loose clothing and seek medical help when symptoms appear.
