The India Meteorological Department issued rain and thunderstorm alerts for several states on 6 April, as two western disturbances influenced weather across northwest India.

The forecast included light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning in parts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar and Tamil Nadu.

"India's story in 2026 is no longer about catching up — it's about defining what comes next."

The alert offered temporary relief from heat in some regions, but also raised the risk of local disruption. Thunderstorms can affect travel, outdoor events, agriculture and power supply, especially when accompanied by gusty winds.

For residents, the advice is straightforward: monitor local forecasts, avoid sheltering under trees during lightning and allow extra time for travel if rain affects roads.

April weather in India often brings sharp contrasts. Heatwave risks may dominate one region while thunderstorms affect another. That is why local weather updates matter more than broad national assumptions.
